You know how once you start seeing something you then see it everywhere?
As mentioned last week, I recently re-watched the movie Frida and after that and casting on my sumptuous Camomile a few weeks ago, I have tuned in to seeing Frida Kahlo-inspired styling everywhere!
Like this over the top fun jumper below:
Crazy Homies collection by Cats Brothers.
And this next shrug, which is more subdued but still has a South American/Aztec feel to its geometric colourwork.
Geo Floral Shrug Micaela Greg
Naturally, styling in the knitting world is reflecting this fashion trend -as seen in the most recent Noro Magazine:
#6 Semi-Circle Shawl by Tabetha Hedrick
And from Knitscene Accessories 2013:
San Cristóbal Shawl by Ashley Rao
Caught up in this love of all things latin, I couldn’t help queuing yet another cardigan after seeing this beautiful version by Tjaša, which ties into the feel of this trend with it’s elaborate open lacework.
Honeybee Cardigan by Laura Chau
Now I just have to find the time to make it, so that I can wear my hair braided with it and my Camomile! Maybe in a deep, rich purple? Mmmm.
The designs are very different but striking!
The do carry a certain ‘punch’ don’t they!
Ooh! Ooh!! Honeybee is in my queue too!!! We can knitting twins again! I obtain an inordinate amount of joy from knitting the same thing as someone else. This notion has raised the urgency of this project tenfold. I still don’t know what yarn I want to use though. Hmmm!
Whoops got totally sidetracked there.
You gave me a good giggle with this one! Well I haven’t moved it up to the priority section yet…shall we plan for maybe a Sept start and do a knitalong of sorts?
Hmm, I’m not sure, but there might be a knitalong starting up in September that I might want to glom onto- not sure if you’re interested in 1940s knits? But we should definitely make Honeybee a thing at some point right?? Although you have to promise to give me a head start…lol!! Hmm I still can’t decide if I want to make it in red or aqua… or something else entirely!
What is the 1940s knitalong? I am always tempted by vintage patterns, but can’t quite get the motivation to struggle through. Maybe with a KAL?
Red or aqua would be puuuurrrty!
The details haven’t been announce yet but it’ll be on Lucky Lucille. That’s all I know! Let’s do it together! 😀
Let me know when it comes up! If I am not crazy busy, lets do it…
i haven’t been able to find knitscene magazine and i’d love to make the san cristobal shawl! perhaps i should look online? i loved the sound track to the frida movie, and ran many miles to it (when i used to run!)
Oooh. I look forward to seeing yours!I am surprised no one has cast it on yet, but I guess summer knitting takes precedence. Surely you should be able to order it online fairly easily?
