Growing up ‘in the woods’ in the wilds of northern British Columbia, colour has always been a huge part of my life. As a child I was the always the one marvelling at sunsets or elbow deep in the finger paints, glorying at the amazing way colours would mix. As an adult I made the great European move from Canada to London for a masters degree in Fine Art Painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2006.
In 2013 I found the perfect combination of my skill in paint mixing and glazing with my steadily growing passion for knitting and natural yarns – kettle yarn dyeing! I initially began hand dyeing yarn for my own projects but with repeated requests for custom colours this quickly grew into dyeing yarn for others and Kettle Yarn Co. was born.
The yarn bases I use are carefully sourced from ethical mills to ensure animal welfare and I try to use fibres with low carbon footprints to reduce negative impact on the environment. All the bases I use are extensively wear tested and I only choose low pilling and long wearing blends that are soft enough for sensitive skins. These yarns are then lovingly hand dyed in small batches by hand to get a subtle depth of colour for people as crazy about luscious colour as I am!
I speak a bit of French as my mother is French, so can usually understand if someone writes to me en français – though I might use a bit of Google Translate to write back, so être gentil avec mes traductions fous! 😉
