Life after Google Reader

Like most of you, I have been trying to find a replacement reader for my RSS feeds now that Google Reader is shutting down – or ‘popping its clogs’, as I like to say! The day has finally arrived and I just realised I still haven’t posted on this! Oops.

Anyway, I tried quite a few out and realised what I really wanted was a reader that lets me see everything in the window without having to take the extra step to click through to the actual site to read the post.

I finally chanced on one that I like, so thought I would share just in case there are some of you out there still searching…Netvibes.

Blog post shown is for the new, pretty Cable Back Shell by The Purl Bee released yesterday. It is cute – and free!

As you can see in the screenshot above, you can see all your feeds to the left and can even organize them into files. There is also an option for different ‘dashboards’ which allows you to separate topics you follow – I have one for knitting, one for sewing, and one for random pretty design things.  The latter two I hardly check, but my favourites are there if I need them.

Another cool thing is that you can just copy/paste the URL of blog you want to follow. No need to try and track down their RSS URL, which is a bonus as some people don’t seem to include one!

There are many other features like a trend analyzer, etc. but I really haven’t had the time to check it out with all the other stuff I have on at the moment.

If you are still looking for a replacement reader, check it out! This one is a keeper.
